COPE in collaboration with colleagues at James Cook and Murdoch Universities have published a study entitled “Charge and exciton dynamics of OLEDs under high voltage nanosecond pulse: towards injection lasing” in Nature Communications [11, 4310 (2020)]. The team report experimental and theoretical results on polymer light-emitting diodes operating at high current density under nanosecond voltage pulses. They demonstrate being able to determine the exciton and charge carrier dynamics across timescales spanning from the sub-ns to microsecond region, which has then been accurately simulated. The model and experimental methods provide an important tool for screening materials and device architectures in the search for electrically driven organic semiconductor lasers.
